It was a small, but perfect storm that caught Alaska Airlines off guard and caused nearly 80 flight cancellations over the past two days.
A spokeswoman said Tuesday, the brief Monday morning snow storm happened during the Seattle-based airline’s busiest time of the day, when all of its gates were running at full capacity.
But, the main issue started with the airline’s fleet of deicing trucks.
“Half of our deicing trucks had mechanical issues,” said Bobbi Egan, spokeswoman for Alaska Airlines. “We didn’t realize it until we had planes continuing to land and we needed a lot of planes to deice in order to take off.”
