Branden Dao of Tracy is the regional champion in his age group following his first-place finish at the USA Gymnastics Men’s Region 1 Championships, April 6 to 9 in Reno.
Branden finished first in the Level 7, age 10 division with an all-around score of 65.300, including first-place marks on the rings (11.100), vault (9.450), parallel bars (11.350) and high bar (11.200).
He competes as part of the team from West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy of Pleasanton and is a member of the USA Gymnastics 10-year-old National Development Team, which will train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in July.
While Branden’s level does not advance to national competition, two of his teammates from West Coast, Colin and Tyler Flores of Mountain House, finished second (76.350) and fourth (75.800) in the Level 8, 12-year-old division. They will compete at the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics in Florida, May 10-14.
Tracy gymnast second at regionals
Romi Tsang, a freshman at Tracy High, placed second all-around in Level 8 during the USA Women’s Gymnastics Region 1 Level 8-10 Championships, April 7 to 9 in Visalia.
It was her third year competing at Region 1 as a member of the Northern California team, having qualified with a first-place all-around finish at the NorCal State Championships in Pleasanton on March 18. She is a member of California Gymnastics Academy of Livermore and was among 524 Level 8 gymnasts from California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah at the Region 1 event.
