Rep. Keith Ellison says he’ll resign from Congress if he’s elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee, hoping to remove an argument some Democrats have used against his bid.
The five-term Minnesota lawmaker, who became the first Muslim elected to Congress, has racked up a string of endorsements, including from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, and outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. The prior DNC chair was Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who is still a member of Congress.
But some have argued that it’s better to have a chair who isn’t working two jobs.
