UC Irvine doesn't measure up against No. 20 Arizona in 79-57 loss


TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona’s towering European tandem was too much for UC Irvine on Tuesday night.

Dusan Ristic and Lauri Markkanen, a pair of 7-footers, scored 18 points apiece, and No. 20 Arizona beat outmanned UCI, 79-57, in a nonconference game.

Ristic, a Serbian who was two points shy of his career high, scored 14 in the first half and finished with 10 rebounds. Markkanen, the standout Finnish freshman, had 13 points in the second and finished 7 for 10 from the field, including 4 for 6 from 3-point range. Rawle Alkins added 14 points and Kadeem Allen 12 for the Wildcats (7-2), who bounced back from Saturday’s loss to No. 8 Gonzaga at Staples Center.

Jaron Martin scored 12 and Max Hazzard 10 for the Anteaters (4-5), who continue to play without senior guard Luke Nelson (hamstring).
